How Can Airports Be Protected against Current Threats?

Security experts around the world need to make a major paradigm shift – when planning security arrangements at an airport, armed guards around the building and x-ray machines at the gates are not enough. Airport security these days must also address more distant threats such as missiles and drones.

The drone strike on the airport at Abu Dhabi on January 17 confirms this insight. In the attack, most likely carried out by Shia elements, drones and ballistic missiles hit fuel trucks near the airport, leading to delays and suspension of flights.
