Protection for The Teams at the Winter Olympics in Beijing: Double Jeopardy

The security officers in charge of protection for the teams who will be competing in the Winter Olympic Games in Beijing are currently busy protecting the members of the delegations. Unlike previous years, this time their concern is twofold: protecting the teams not only against terror threats, but also against invasion of their privacy by the host country.

Some Western countries have warned that China is planning to spy on the delegations using an application the athletes are required to download to their mobile phones (a tracing app that helps break the chain of coronavirus infections).

The National Olympic Committees of the U.S., the U.K., Australia and other states have instructed the members of their delegations not to bring their phones and laptops with them to the Olympic Games.
